Running Vista Media Center on my XBOX 360 (with Video)
Last night I played with the extender function of Windows Vista. This is the first time I have got my XBOX 360 working as an extender with Vista.
Using the latest build of Vista (5472) I setup up the XBOX 360 as an extender. The setup was very simple, it seems slicker that the XP version and maybe a little quicker.
Once up and running it looks exactly like Media Center running on Vista, with the new UI and sounds.
I made a little video of Vista Media Center running on my XBOX 360, check out the new mini guide in action as well as the the new sounds

How did you get past the region encoding error.
I tried my xbox 360 with vista february CTP build and the xbox 360 would not load MCE from the network due to the Xbox360 disc beng the incorrect region.
Maybe you have an american Xbox360 ?

Have you run the 360 through the current version of MCE (2005 SE, I think), and how does vista compare with regards to speed and usability?
The current version of MCE on the 360 is a bag of bolts. Im really hoping Vista will be a significant improvement.

I used build 5384 which from the comments above must be a little old. It does not work the wizard never completes on the Vista PC. On the XBOX the wizard closes immediatly after you begin the wizard on the PC.
I will try to get a newer build after reading Ian’s comments.

I installed Windows Vista RC1 and was able to use my 360 with no problems… Until I reverted back to MCE 2005. The 360 noticed the change and stated that I was trying to use an older version of the software that was installed. It gave me the option of selecting the new or older version, I selected to use the older version. Now when I try to play recorded TV or even watch live TV the 360 hangs.
Has this happend to anyone else?

I have used MCE05 with XBOX360 as an extender with zero problems. I have today purchased vista home premium and installed on a new pc on my home network, which also has existing MCE05 and XBOX360 extender, can the xbox360 connect to either mce ?

I have Vista Ultimate and a standard (with DVD “modifications”) 360. All my xvid coded TV-shows work well in Media Center on the PC, but I get an error, stating that I do not have the right codecs when trying to access them via the xbox. I have “Vista codec pack” installed on the computer. Any ideas?

I have also upgraded from MCE05 to vista ultimate, and all my existing movies that worked with XBox360 & MCE05, no longer works with XBOX360 & Vista ? Have they changed something. I don’t want to convert all my movies to another format.
Error Cannot play movie, reboot media pc.
