Looking for a new TV
In the new year I am looking to buy a new TV. I want a 37 to 40 inch screen HDMI input (to hook it up to an XBox 360) it must have freeview built in (the standard for UK over air digital TV)
So far this Sony looks good and best of all my wife likes it
Sony KDLS40A12 40″ High Definition Digital LCD
| Pixel resolution | 1366×768 |
| - | High Definition Ready |
| - | Receive up to 30 digital channels |
| - | New BRAVIA styling |
| - | Virtual Dolby Surround Sound (20W) |
| - | HDMI Connectivity |
| - | PAL 3D Comb Filter |
| - | Wall Mountable |
| - | Component Input |
| - | 16ms Panel Response Time |
| - | 7 day Electronic Programme Guide |
I am going to be wall mounting it connecting it to an XBOX 360 as an extender. The process has involved complex negotiations with my wife so we have a new sofa on the way
Has anybody got any recommendation?
Maybe I will see something at CES!

I bought my hdtv from ebuyer - may be worth a look. Check out the reviews before you commit - I paid £800 4 months ago for a 32 LCD TV (hidef ready) and am chuffed to bits with it :-)

Regarding your wife liking the Sony… Years ago I coined a term called WAF - Wife Acceptancy Factor. A stereo component or TV that doesn’t look that nice has a low WAF. Something like the Sony model has a high WAF. When I’m included in the shopping process, the store clerks look confused when my husband asks me “So dear, what’s the WAF for this one?”

Whatever you do decide upon search in pricerunner, dealtime, kelkoo first, initial search shows it at £1579. Just be careful with the HD compatibility there was something on BBC News http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4361543.stm about on 1.3% of HD Ready sets being able to display HD correctly.

After seen the displays at CES, I am more confused!
Still I think the Sony is the best I have seen in the UK

I’ve also seen this TV (sony kdls40a12) and it looks great!
But I have only seen it in the sony centre where the only connections were via a PC to demo hi-def images (amazing!) and the RF connection for every other source. Not great if you want to demo standard def DVD though component or RGB which is how I’d have it set up if I buy it.
Does anyone here already own this TV? If so, how happy are you with it? Does it perform well and look good in ‘busy’ scenes?
The only reviews I have seen so far are for the sony “V” and “W” series versions in “What HiFi” and similar magazines, and aren’t particularly ‘raved’ about.
cheers
