Tip on recording to a file server from Andy:
- Setup Active Directory on Win2003 server.

- Add MCE PC to domain. You must do this before you install MCE as it removes the ability to join a domain after the install.

- Create file share on server and for the folder and share permissions give everyone “full control”. MCE seems sensitive to these permissions and I tried all sorts of combinations before having to open permissions up to everyone.

- Edit the following registry keys in on the MCE PC:
In “HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording” edit the “RecordPath” and “WatchedFolders” to point to your server file share (\\myserver\RecodedTV)

- Log into your MCE PC using a domain account.

    Control Media Center from laptop

Just use NetMeeting thru MSN messenger. Start Application sharing from the media PC to the laptop. SHare the media center Desktop. Control the media center from the laptop. This assumes the laptop has wireless.

    Good luck

  4. Ian Dixon Says:
